IUD Insertion and Removal

IUD insertion and removal is a medical procedure where a Doctor places or removes an intrauterine device (IUD), a small, T-shaped contraceptive device, into or from the uterus. This procedure is used for long-term birth control and can be effective for several years. In addition to contraception, IUDs can also be used for managing heavy menstrual bleeding and reducing the risk of endometrial hyperplasia in women undergoing estrogen replacement therapy.

Types of IUDs

There are two types of IUDs women may consider for contraception

  • Hormonal IUDs. They are also called progestin-releasing IUDs

  • Non-hormonal IUDs. They are also known as copper-releasing

It is best to book a time with the doctor to discuss the best IUD for you
